UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Iraqi Commander Hadi Al-Amiri today called on all national forces in the country to unite against the US following the killing of the top Iranian commander in a US air strike in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Al-Amiri, is the commander of the Badr organization affiliated with the Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militant group, also known as the Popular Mobilization Unit (PMU).
Al-Amiri’s statement came after the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and Abu-Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy leader of Hashd al-Shaabi in Iraq.
Al-Amiri, also leader of the pro-Iranian Fatah Alliance and known for its close ties to Soleimani and al-Muhandis, described the attack as “a dirty crime”.
The US earlier this morning confirmed that it carried out the attack that killed Soleiman in Baghdad.
Soleimani had long been the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which has been designated a terrorist group in the US since 2007. It is estimated to have 20,000 members.
