Iraqi militia shelled another drone flying over their base

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Al-Hashd al-Shaabi Iraqi militia forces fired on a drone flying over one of the militia bases in Salah al-Din province north of Baghdad.

“The forces of the 41st and 43rd brigades opposed an unknown UAV flying on Sunday over the headquarters of the operational command of al-Hashd al-Shaabi in the province of Salah al-Din,” the statement said on the website. militias.

It is noted that before the shelling of the UAV, the militia received confirmation from the headquarters of the joint command of the Iraqi armed forces that the apparatus did not belong to them.

The militia reported similar incidents on September 11 and August 22, and on August 25 confirmed that two of its fighters were killed in an attack by drones in the border with Syria, Anbar province in western Iraq.

Earlier, military sources in Baghdad reported that the Iraqi authorities were considering a number of proposals to improve the country’s air defense system, among them the acquisition of modern anti-aircraft missile systems from other countries, as well as the return to service of retired officers.

These measures were in response to a series of attacks on military bases Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, which, according to the leadership of the Iraqi militia, were carried out by Israel in coordination with the United States.
