Italy: second regional head infected with coronavirus

US, WASHINGTON (NEWS OBSERVATORY) — The president of the North Italian region of Piedmont, Alberto Chirio, became infected with the coronavirus, according to a regional administration report distributed on Sunday morning.

A test for coronavirus performed on Saturday evening Chirio gave a positive result. The state of health of the head of the region is rated as “good.”

In his appeal through Facebook, Chirio confirmed the information about his infection and urged fellow countrymen to take the current situation in the field of the spread of coronavirus in the most serious way. He said that he would continue to work, being in self-isolation mode.

In the near future, the governor’s staff and his colleagues in the regional government will also be tested for the virus.

On Saturday, it became known that the president of the metropolitan area of Lazio, the leader of the ruling coalition of Italy, the Democratic Party of Nicola Zingaretti, became infected with a coronavirus.

A well-known politician said that he feels good, but he will work at home in the coming days.
