Jerusalem: Saudi Arabia launches a sharp attack on Israel

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Saudi Arabia launched a sharp attack on Israel after the latter carried out “aggression and dangerous escalation” represented in the demolition of dozens of homes of Palestinian citizens in Jerusalem and targeted their presence in the city, reports RT news agency.

This came in a speech delivered by the Permanent Representative of Riyadh to the United Nations, Abdullah bin Yahya al-Muallimi, before the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People at the United Nations in New York.

“Saudi Arabia is seeking to provide all means of support to the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights to build an independent state along the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, according to the internationally recognized bases, and the Arab peace initiative,” he said.

He also affirmed “the condemnation of the Saudi Council of Ministers and its strong condemnation of the demolition of dozens of houses in the area of Wadi al-Homs in the town of Sur Baher, east of Jerusalem, which houses hundreds of Palestinian citizens, and called on the international community to intervene to stop this aggression and dangerous escalation targeting the Palestinian presence and forced displacement. Citizens of Jerusalem, attempt to change the city’s legal character and demographics, is contrary to international and humanitarian laws and related agreements.”

“The reports of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, as well as the relevant United Nations reports, confirm the Israeli authorities’ insistence on violating the rights of the Palestinian people, their continued violations of relevant international resolutions, and increasing the human suffering of the Palestinian people,” the Saudi diplomat said.

Ambassador Abdullah al-Muallimi said that “the Kingdom stresses that there is no justification for the continuation of flagrant Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, especially in light of the international consensus on the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on the borders of June 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital.

“The international community’s emphasis on achieving comprehensive peace with Israel has been based on the Arab Peace Initiative and the resolutions of international legitimacy.”
