US, WASHINGTON (NEWS OBSERVATORY) — In the US, they executed 42-year-old Nathaniel Woods, who was convicted of the murder of three police officers. Many celebrities and human rights activists sided with the man, but this could not save the convict from death.
Woods was executed on March 5 at around 9 p.m. local time. Alabama Governor Kay Ivy refused a pardon.
Many celebrities stood up for Nathaniel Woods, including Kim Kardashian. On her Twitter page, the model wrote that the execution of a man is a tragic example of injustice in the system. According to her, Woods died for a crime that he did not commit.
According to the investigation, the executed man and his neighbor were involved in drug trafficking. Allegedly the second was the first to open fire on police officers aiming at him from a pistol. Nathaniel Woods escaped after the first shot.
The prosecution considered that it was he who initiated the ambush and murder of law enforcement officers.
The incident occurred in 2004. Neighbor Woods was also sentenced to death, but the execution date is still unknown, CNN reports .
This is not the first time that Kim Kardashian tried to stand up for the convicts. For example, in 2018, after her request, U.S. President Donald Trump reduced the prison sentence to 63-year-old woman Alice Johnson, who was sentenced to life in prison for drug possession.
The death penalty returned to America in June 2019. At the same time, the state authorities independently decided whether to apply such punishment to any convicted persons or not.
