RUSSIA (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Russia is the only country whose military personnel remain in Syria legally at the request of the country’s leadership. So the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov in the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” on the TV channel”Russia 1″ commented on the statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the Russian Federation should leave Syria.
“Russia is the only country that has its military in Syria on a legal basis at the request of the legitimate Syrian leadership. All other military forces of other countries are in Syria in conflict with the norms and principles of international law,” Peskov emphasized.
He also recalled that the actions of the Syrian military in recent days “are aimed at countering terrorist groups.”
“We know that according to the Sochi accords a year ago, it was Turkey that was obliged to ensure a regime of inactivity of these terrorist elements. Unfortunately, Turkey did not fulfill these obligations and the terrorists went on the offensive against the Syrian armed forces,” the Kremlin representative added.
Peskov also pointed out that terrorists in Syria are also attacking Russian military facilities. “Therefore, in spite of any statements, the fight against these terrorist elements will continue,” the presidential spokesman said.
