Laser drone destruction shot on video in Israel

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Israeli weapons company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd on Wednesday, February 12, on its YouTube channel posted a video of the destruction of a drone using a laser complex Drone Dome to destroy drones.

On a video lasting about two minutes, a complex mounted on a car’s chassis is demonstrated. It includes an optoelectronic target tracking system, a control system and a laser mounted on the roof of the car.

Drone Dome can detect objects up to 0.002 square meters. m at a distance of 3.5 km. After detection, the system is fixed on the drone and holds it in sight. Against the apparatus, you can use a silencer or laser weapons.

The video shows how an invisible laser beam melts the body of the drone. In total, the destruction of seven vehicles that did not perform any complex maneuvers in flight was demonstrated on the record.

In October 2019, it became known about the US plans to install the first combat laser system on the ship of the Navy USS Portland (LPD-27). A beam power of 150 kW will hit small boats and drones.
