UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Private groups in the WhatsApp messenger, owned by Facebook, were not so private. As Motherboard reporters found out, links to automatically join these groups are easy to find using Google.
Thus, everyone who formulated a request to Google in a certain way could see the contents of private chats that their administrators created, possibly for extremely confidential communication.
The fact is that links to such chats contain the string “chat.whatsapp.com”.
By entering it into Google, you can find hundreds of thousands of links to WhatsApp groups published by their creators in various forums, in social networks or simply in comments on websites.
Most of these groups are harmless, but during some links, journalists found at least one chat in which the participants exchanged pornography.
In another, employees of one of the nonprofit organizations at the UN communicated – upon joining it, journalists got access to the phone numbers of participants.
The messenger, whose number of users has recently exceeded 2 billion people, is regularly at the center of scandals.
Recently, he was named as the most likely route of attack , leading to the theft of intimate images from the richest man in the world, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
The materials fell into the yellow press and led to a divorce, which cost the businessman half the fortune.
Telegram founder Pavel Durov has repeatedly explained why he is sure that WhatsApp is intentionally stuffed with spy bookmarks.
