AFGHANISTAN (OBSERVATORY) – The helicopter of the Afghan National Army (ANA) crashed during an emergency landing in the province of Helmand in the south of Afghanistan, the agency Pazhwak with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the country.
The incident occurred during a special operation near the town of Girishk on Sunday night. According to the Ministry of Defense, the cause of the accident was a technical malfunction.
The crew of the aircraft after landing was evacuated to a safe place, the siloviki destroyed the helicopter.
As the agency was told by an anonymous source in the local armed forces, during the incident, representatives of the army conducted a raid to detain one of the commanders of the militants, but the helicopter was shot down.
The radical Taliban movement stated that the militants shot down a helicopter and killed all servicemen on board.
In October, Afghanistan is scheduled to hold combined elections to the parliament and district councils, registration of voters in the country started on April 14. After the opening of the voter registration, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani invited the radical Taliban to return to the peace process as a political movement and take part in the elections.
The Taliban responded to the proposal with a refusal.
