Ministry of Oil: Militants attack the Syrian Banias refinery

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Syrian Oil Ministry said on Monday that militants attacked the Syrian Banias refinery, located near the Mediterranean coast, as they sent divers to plant explosives in underwater pipelines.

It was not clear the extent of the damage so far, but official media reported that technical experts are assessing the damage and carrying out the necessary reforms.

Oil Minister Ali Ghanem told official television that the refinery operations would not be disrupted.

The Baniyas refinery can process more than 130,000 barrels per day of crude oil.
