UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The American driver suffered serious burns after his tanker collapsed on its side on a highway in Indiana, caught fire, and then exploded.
Eyewitnesses saved the man from certain death – they helped him get out of the cab and took him to the side, reports WRCBtv.
The moment of the explosion was filmed on video.
The accident occurred in the afternoon of February 20 at the intersection of the I-465 and I-70 freeways on the eastside of Indianapolis.
The exact causes of the accident are not called, but at the roundabout, the tank carrying 18 tons of fuel fell on its side and flared up. The road was engulfed in fire, traffic was stopped.
Owners of passing cars managed to pull the injured driver out of the cab and run away to the side before the explosion.
Traffic on both freeways was closed for four hours, while rescuers eliminated the effects of a severe fire.
