UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Morgan Freeman responded to a CNN report detailing allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior towards women, and his legal team asked the network to withdraw the report.
The famous star has threatened to file a lawsuit against the channel over the allegations. Freeman’s lawyer noted that reporter Cluj-Melas, co-author of the report with her editor-in-chief, Anne Fong, “was motivated by racism or a desire to progress professionally to do what she did.”
“The false accusations by Freeman’s lawyer are disappointing and difficult to reconcile with Freeman’s public statements following the case,” a spokesman for the network said, confirming CNN’s adherence to its reports. “It will respond strongly to any attempt by Freeman to prevent it from covering the important issue.”
The legal letter came to the head of the CNN network, Jeff Zucker, denying allegations that Freeman was tormenting his girlfriend, Laurie MacRieri, who also denied the allegations, giving the magistrate a greater chance of winning the legal case once he is brought to justice.
“On the basis of these additional facts, it is clear that CNN has distorted the name of Freeman and seriously damaged his reputation and profession, so the network should immediately withdraw and apologize to Mr. Freeman through the same channels and with the same level of interest,” the letter said.
