Moscow: Strikes against Syria are a new attempt to defeat Assad

RUSSIA / SYRIA (OBSERVATORY) – By striking Syria, Washington, Paris and London were seeking to revive the spirit of the Arab Spring in order to rule out Bashar al-Assad, Russian diplomacy said.

Moscow views the series of strikes by Washington and its allies in Syria as an attempt to overthrow Bashar al-Assad and call for an uprising similar to that of the Arab Spring, Russian diplomacy said through its spokesman. say Maria Zakharova.

“The goal? It can not be explained from the point of view of logic and efficiency. It can only be explained by the return to the design “Assad must leave” and the idea of the “Arab Spring” that they sought to organize just a few years ago, “she said.

According to the diplomat, the attack was aimed at “reviving” this idea and “doing it by force”.

The United States, the United Kingdom and France attacked Syria’s military infrastructure sites in the night of 13-14 April. Allies fired more than 100 cruise missiles, most of which were shot down as they approached their targets. Last year, the Syrian military airfield in Shayrat had already been attacked by 59 missiles.

To justify their actions, Washington and its allies claimed that these strikes were a response to the alleged chemical attack in the city of Douma.

The Syrian authorities have always denied this attack, while the Russian Defense Ministry said it was staged.
