Multiple dead after car slams into N.C. restaurant: reports

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) РA driver has been arrested and two people are dead, including an off-duty deputy, after a car crashed into a restaurant in Gaston County, North Carolina, Sunday afternoon, WSPA reports.

According to the Gaston Gazette, two people died and at least two others were seriously injured when a man drove a white SUV into the Surf and Turf Lodge in Bessemer City. Early reports say the man may have driven the SUV into the restaurant on purpose.

The Gaston Gazette identified the man as Rodger Self of Dallas, and one of those killed as his daughter, Corporal Kate Self of the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office. Another family member was also killed while others were taken to the hospital for their injuries.

The incident happened just after noon Sunday. Restaurant staff said that Self took his family into the restaurant and had them seated before going back out to his car. He then drove the SUV at high speed into the portion of the restaurant they were seated at.
