UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – In a first speech after the Lebanese legislative elections, Lebanese Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah spoke about political issues concerning Lebanon.
Lebanese Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah thanked the Lebanese people on Monday for massive participation in Sunday’s parliamentary elections. “The holding of these elections is a national achievement for the Lebanese people,” he said.
Nasrallah has described the application of the proportional law as a correct and appropriate measure and at the same time warned against revisiting the law of majority voting of the past.
He welcomed the fact that, despite the tensions and the conflictual climate of the region, the Lebanese legislative elections took place under rather suitable conditions.
“The new composition of Parliament is a great victory for the Resistance and its allies,” said Hezbollah’s secretary general.
In the view of Hassan Nasrallah, the recent parliamentary elections marked “a great victory for Hezbollah and the Resistance defending Lebanese sovereignty; the new composition of the Lebanese Parliament provides support for the army-resistance-people equation”.
“During the election period, the Resistance and its allies, including Iran and Syria, were the subject of a massive campaign of accusations by the United States. Many wanted the Shiites to get no seats in Parliament, yet they failed.”
Nasrallah, however, discouraged any speech marked by sectarian or divisive inclinations, and added:
“The Lebanese people will resist any provocative word. The elections are over and nothing will change the results. And given the developments in the region, Lebanon must proceed in the direction of forming its government as soon as possible.”
