NATO emergency meeting on Syria

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) –┬áNATO announced an emergency meeting to be held today in its headquarters in the Belgian capital Brussels, to discuss the Western strike directed by Washington, Paris and London to Syria today.

A NATO official said delegates from the United States, France and Britain would brief other NATO members on the results of the strikes on government and military sites in Syria.

The official said that the emergency meeting will be held under the chairmanship of NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, and will be attended by representatives of the 29 member states of the alliance. The meeting will be held at 1 pm GMT.

NATO did not take part in the strikes, but NATO Secretary-General Kofi Annan said on Wednesday he supported “strikes that would reduce the ability of the Syrian government to carry out more attacks against its people using chemical weapons.”
