Netanyahu considers Israeli actions as self-defense against Hamas

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, viewed Israel’s actions in Gaza as self-defense against Hamas, which it says sends its fighters to destroy Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip as self-defense against the Hamas group.

“Every country must defend its borders. The terrorist organization Hamas declares that it intends to destroy Israel and send thousands [of combatants, ed] to break the border barrier to achieve this goal. We will continue to act strongly to protect sovereignty and our citizens,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

The US government opened the United States Embassy in Jerusalem on May 14, the 70th anniversary of the proclamation of the State of Israel. Violent clashes erupted on Monday morning and continued in the afternoon along the border with the Gaza Strip.

According to the latest report provided to Sputnik by Gazan medical representative Ashraf al-Kidra, 52 Palestinians have been killed and more than 2,400 wounded by Israeli soldiers.
