UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – In firing rockets into Israel, Iran crossed the red line, so recent Israeli strikes against Iranian military targets in Syrian territory were justified, said Benjamin Netanyahu.
A large-scale attack on Iranian targets by the Israel Defense Forces in Syria was an appropriate response to Iran “crossing a red line” firing rockets at Israeli military bases on the Golan Heights, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We are in the middle of a protracted battle and our policy is clear: we will not allow Iran to retrench militarily in Syria,” he said.
Netanyahu also noted that Damascus must draw conclusions from Israel’s latest attack, according to the Israeli daily Haaretz quoting the politician.
“Yesterday, I sent a clear message to the Assad regime: our action targeted Iranian targets in Syria, but if the Syrian army acts against us, we will act against it, that is exactly what happened. passed yesterday. The Syrian batteries fired surface-to-air missiles against us, so we hit them,” he added.
The Jewish state announced at dawn on Thursday that it has hit “dozens of Iranian military targets” in Syria in response to rocket attacks against its military bases in the Golan Heights.
Syrian air defense systems have shot down more than half of the 70 missiles fired by Israel, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
