UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The new type of coronavirus COVID-2019 , which has spread in China , can eventually become a chronic form of the disease and exist as an epidemiological flu, said Wang Chen, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Sciences, an expert in the field of severe respiratory diseases.
“Due to the fact that the infectivity and nature of SARS were very strong, this virus has such a feature (suddenly appear and disappear unexpectedly – ed.). A virus with such high infectivity and such strong pathogenicity cannot easily exist and continue to be transmitted between people. “If a virus kills the organism in which it lives, it doesn’t become itself. And if we talk about a virus such as a new type of coronavirus, it can acquire a chronic form and exist as an epidemiological flu for a long time,” said Van Ch Hb broadcast by China Central Television.
He emphasized that such a probability is absolutely real and everyone should be prepared for this disease.
On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan in the central part of the country (Hubei Province). Experts have identified the causative agent of the disease – this is a new coronavirus. WHO recognized the outbreak as an emergency of international importance and gave the disease its official name – COVID-2019.
The number of people infected in mainland China has already exceeded 74.1 thousand people, 2004 people have died, almost 14.4 thousand have been cured. Outside of China, over 800 cases of COVID-2019 infection were detected in 25 countries, of which three were fatal.
The virus is transmitted by airborne droplets from a distance of one or two meters, by contact – through the touch of dirty hands to the eyes, and also through an aerosol in an enclosed space under conditions of high concentration of aerosol.
The main symptoms of the disease are dry cough, shortness of breath, up to respiratory failure, fever, weakness. However, in some cases, the disease goes away without pneumonia, it is only accompanied by a rare dry cough and a low temperature, but even with mild symptoms, the patient can infect others.
