Opposition leader: Britain should seek an independent investigation into Syria’s attack

UNITED KINGDOM (OBSERVATORY) – Britain should seek an independent UN-led investigation into a suspected chemical attack in Syria rather than wait for US President Donald Trump’s instructions, Britain’s opposition Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn said on Friday.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Theresa May received support from senior government members for taking action not to deter the Syrian government from using chemical weapons again in cooperation with the United States and France. Corbyn said parliament’s opinion must be taken before any military action.

“The government seems to be waiting for instructions from US President Donald Trump on how to act,” he said.

“Britain should seek an independent UN-led investigation into the horrific chemical attack of the weekend so that those responsible can be held accountable.”
