Pentagon announces US readiness for talks with Iran

Washington does not expect Iranian attacks on its positions in the future, Pentagon chief Mark Esper said in an interview with CBS News.

He noted that the government in Iran is legal, and therefore the American leadership is ready to meet with the Iranian.

“This is still the legitimate government of Iran. And, as we said, I said, the president definitely said that we would meet with them. We are ready to sit down and discuss, without preconditions, the way forward, a series of steps by which Iran will become a more normal country “, – added the head of the Pentagon.

It was reported that on January 3, the US military conducted a special operation near the Baghdad airport , as a result of which Qassem Suleimani , the head of the Quds special forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran, was killed . In response, Iran launched rocket attacks on two Iraqi military bases that host military forces from the US-led coalition against the IS terrorist group.
