Pentagon chief accuses China of destabilizing Indo-Pacific region

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — China is undermining the stability of the Indo-Pacific region, US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said at a briefing.

“Earlier this month I visited the Indo-Pacific region. This region is a priority for us,” he said.
According to Esper, “it’s obvious that China is pursuing a deliberate strategy to undermine the stability of the region.”

“We will continue to expand our defense activities in the region and close cooperation with our allies and partners,” the minister added.
