Pentagon chief announces visit to Europe to discuss “Russian aggression”

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Pentagon chief Mark Esper said he would fly to Europe next week to discuss Russia’s containment with NATO allies. He stated this, speaking at a briefing in front of reporters on Tuesday, August 28.

“Next week I will visit Europe to meet with some NATO allies, where we will discuss the US position in Europe, as well as our ongoing efforts to deter Russian aggression,” US media quoted him as saying.

Earlier in August, the commander of the Norwegian Armed Forces, Haakon Bruun-Hanssen, announced that the United States was approaching Russian borders, and this provoked and forced Moscow to conduct military exercises . He expressed concern that Norway is located in an area where a confrontation between Russia and NATO is potentially possible.
