UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – The Pentagon insists that “a large amount of information” indicates the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government in the attack on the city of the Duma on April 7, 2018.
Earlier, journalists of the American television channel One America News Network visited the Syrian city of the Duma and found no signs of using chemical weapons.
At the same time, the Associated Press journalists referring to eyewitnesses report that the chemical attack was, but it was organized by the “Army of Islam” (“Jaysh al-Islam”), and not by the Syrian government, as the Western countries insist. Russian officials said that a dramatization took place in the Syrian Duma, and chemical weapons were not used there. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the organization “White Helmets” is involved in this production.
As Pentagon spokesman Adrian Rankin-Galloway told, “A significant amount of information indicates that the Syrian regime used chlorine in the bombing of the Duma, while some additional information indicates that the sarin nerve agent was also used.”
“The video and images show the remains of at least two barrel chlorine bombs after a perfect attack with characteristics similar to the chlorine drums used in past attacks. In addition, a large volume of high-quality, reliable photographs and videos from the Duma clearly document the presence of the victims , who suffer from suffocation and foaming in the mouth, without visible signs of external wounds, “the source said.
The Pentagon also recalled the statement of the World Health Organization (WHO), which previously reported its concern about the alleged chemical attacks in Syria.
At the same time, as the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Geneva office of the United Nations Gennady Gatilov told journalists after the meeting with the WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the organization sent a delegation to the Syrian Duma to assess the medical situation in connection with the possible use of chemical weapons there, after which it promised to adjust its statements .
Gatilov recalled that Moscow was perplexed by the statement of the WHO on April 11 about 500 victims as a result of the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Duma. The Russian Federation indicated to the WHO leadership the illegitimacy of such statements, which are not based on objective facts.
Further, Rankin-Gallowe noted that the witnesses allegedly saw several government Mi-8 helicopters flying over the Duma on April 7. “Numerous eyewitnesses confirm that from these helicopters barreled bombs were thrown in. Photographs of barreled bombs dropped in the Duma closely correspond to those previously used by the regime, these barrel-shaped bombs were a likely source of chemical attack,” the Pentagon continued.
In addition, according to Rankin-Galloway, there is also information about the Himatok from “reliable” intelligence sources.
“The United States is confident that the Syrian regime used chlorine in the Duma on April 7 to kill dozens and injure hundreds of people,” he added.
The United States, Britain and France attacked Syrian government facilities on April 14, which they believed were used to produce chemical weapons.
From 00.42 to 02.10 UTC they released over 100 missiles in Syria, most of which were shot down by Syrian air defense. The Russian forces were not involved, but they monitored all the launches. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the attacks as an act of aggression against a sovereign state, despite the fact that neither Russian military experts nor local residents confirmed the fact of the chemical attack, which became the pretext for strikes.
