US, WASHINGTON (NEWS OBSERVATORY) — Astronomers from the Virtual Telescope Project took a picture of an asteroid codenamed (52768) 1998 OR2, which is approaching our planet.
Already in April, the 29th, astronomers expect a huge rock with a diameter of two kilometers or even more to fly past the Earth. The event will take place in the morning, at 09:56, UT.
An asteroid is potentially dangerous, but the chances of it falling to the globe are reduced to zero. The distance between the object and the Earth will be 16 times the distance from our planet to the moon.
The movement of the asteroid has been fully studied by scientists, so its flight path has already been calculated several centuries in advance.
The next rapprochement with the Earth will happen in 2079. Then, too, there will be no reason for panic, experts assured.
