Putin announced the completion of large-scale hostilities in Syria

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Large-scale hostilities in Syria are over. But a final solution to the conflict can be achieved by a political settlement. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a speech at the plenary session of the Valdai Club meeting in Sochi.

According to him, the Russian side is creating the conditions for resolving “deep issues” by political means. He recalled the efforts of Moscow to create and form a constitutional committee, the idea of which was born in Sochi.

“Then the Syrians themselves agreed on the creation of a constitutional committee for the possible adoption of a new constitution or amendments to the current constitution,” TASS quoted the head of state on Thursday, October 3 .

As Putin specified, currently all parties are awaiting the start of the work of this body in Geneva under the auspices of the UN.

On September 23, UN Secretary General António Guterres announced the creation of a constitutional committee for Syria. The Secretary General noted the participation of Russia, Iran and Turkey in the work to create this body. The EU welcomed this decision.

On September 27, Syrian Foreign Minister Valid Muallem said that the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Iran and Turkey could become participants in the first meeting of the Syrian constitutional committee. According to him, these countries took a large part in the creation of the committee.
