UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The Russian oil company Rosneft said the United States had never informed it that its trade in Venezuelan oil was illegal, before Washington imposed sanctions on a subsidiary on Tuesday.
Rosneft added that US officials did not provide any evidence that the company had violated any restrictions.
It said it was trading in Venezuelan oil to recover previous investments it made long before Washington imposed sanctions on the South American country.
Rosneft said it considered the sanctions imposed on Tuesday to be arbitrary, adding that other companies, including US companies, were carrying out the same activities but did not face the same sanctions.
