UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that unilateral economic sanctions against his country cost his country 200 billion dollars.
This came, according to the official IRNA news agency, on Tuesday, of Rouhani during the opening ceremony of the railway in the province of Karaj, west of Tehran.
Rouhani described the US sanctions as “an economic war.”
He added, “If we were not subjected to sanctions, revenues of $ 200 billion have been entered into the country since 2016, including about $ 100 billion of foreign loans.”
On November 4, 2018, the United States imposed an embargo on Iran, which it considers the “worst kind of embargo” in history.
On that date, the United States began implementing the second package of its economic sanctions against Iran, including the energy, finance, international payments, and shipping sectors.
American sanctions apply to foreign financial institutions, which deal with the Central Bank and the rest of Iranian banks, and also include companies operating ports, shipyards and Iranian shipping companies.
