UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Russia in the UN Security Council has blocked the US resolution on the establishment of a new mechanism for investigating chemical attacks in Syria.
According to the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the world organization Vasily Nebenzi, the document presented contradicts the Russian position on this issue. He noted that the Americans and their allies “do not even want to hear about the absence of traces” of the use of poisonous substances.
The British Permanent Representative to the UN, Karen Pearce, in her turn, stated that Russia “has crossed the red line of the international order” by vetoing the US project.
“Russian action today is a step against the rules and powers of the UN Security Council. This is a step against international peace, security and non-proliferation, as well as a step against humanity, “the British diplomat said.
Later, a vote was taken on the Russian draft resolution on the establishment of a mechanism for investigating chemical attacks in Syria, but the document did not receive the necessary support from the members of the Security Council.
