Russia: Civilians can exit from Idlib, Syria, through 3 new checkpoints

Civilians can exit the no-escalation zone in Syria’s Idlib governorate through three new checkpoints, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

In the statement, issued late on Sunday, the ministry added that it has received many requests from civilians in Idlib in areas controlled by armed factions who wish to return to their homes located in lands controlled by the Syrian government forces.

The Russian army has asked armed groups to allow people to leave Idlib if they wish to do so.

Residents and opponents said that Russia and its allies stopped the air strikes on Idlib on Sunday after the ceasefire agreement reached with Turkey came into effect, but a few of them expressed optimism that the agreement would hold.
