UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – The processes taking place in Syria on the ground speak about the establishment of the US military presence on Syrian territory, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Wednesday.
“We monitor all the signals on this topic in the most careful way,” Ryabkov told Interfax, responding to a request to comment on US President Donald Trump’s statement about the possible withdrawal of US troops from Syria.
“At the same time, we note that in reality processes are taking place on the ground, which, by and large, mean the further strengthening, the establishment in the military sense of the United States in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the deputy minister said.
According to him, “this is, of course, an alarming trend from all points of view.”
“On the one hand, this trend means Washington’s continued disdain for the principles and norms of international law, on the other hand, there is increasing reason for concern about what the real US goals are in Syria, and whether this is a de facto attempt division of this state, that is, encroachment on its territorial integrity,” Ryabkov said.
