The United States on Tuesday passed a draft resolution on the establishment of a new mechanism for investigating chemical attacks in Syria. This is a mission that will replace a group of UN-OPCW experts to investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria (SMR).

In the document, the US insists that after examining the report of the new independent mission (UNIMI), the UN Security Council should declare violations of resolution 2118 (on establishing international control over Syrian chemical weapons and its destruction) and take measures under Chapter VII of the UN Charter (which defines actions in relation to the threat of peace).
