Russia warns US may launch weapons into space

US, WASHINGTON (NEWS OBSERVATORY) — In the near future, the United States may launch elements of its weapons into orbit. This is a very dangerous scenario, and Russia will do everything to prevent it, said Vladimir Yermakov, director of the non-proliferation and arms control department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The appearance in space of US military complexes or their NATO allies poses a real threat to Russia, the agency writes. An arms race in airless space is becoming a reality, Yermakov added.

Recall that in December 2019, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the creation of the Space Forces in the country.

A little earlier, the States published a missile defense development strategy, which involves protecting the country from new cruise and hypersonic missiles developed in Russia and China.

The Pentagon also plans to strengthen the satellite constellation: it will include both reconnaissance spacecraft and interceptors.

All this indicates the desire of the United States to dominate in space, then said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
