UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The Russian diplomat, declared “persona non grata” in Bulgaria, has left the country, the Bulgarian National Radio reports citing a statement by the Foreign Ministry.
On October 29, the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria received a note from the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry declaring the embassy employee to be “persona non grata.”
It is reported that the Russian diplomat flew a direct flight to Moscow with his family.
On Monday, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry demanded that the Russian side expel the diplomat after a statement by the country’s prosecutor general’s office that she was terminating the investigation against a Russian citizen suspected of working for the Russian special services because of his diplomatic status.
Then it was reported that a citizen of the Russian Federation had already left Bulgaria, but, as it turned out, he stayed in the country for another day.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko announced the response measures that the Russian Federation will take.
