Russian navy organizes exercises off the Syrian coast

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — The Russian army organizes large-scale naval exercises off the Syrian coast.

The Russian cruiser Marshal Ustinov, currently deployed off the Mediterranean, has undertaken a series of air defense drills, the press office of the Northern Fleet reported on Wednesday (October 2nd).

“The ship’s crew conducted a series of air defense and anti-submarine exercises to protect the cruiser during her sailings,” the press office said.

The supply of the cruiser Marshal Ustinov was done through the tanker Vyazma. The crew thus restocked the ship’s stocks in the open waters of the eastern Mediterranean during the anchorage.

It was also at the moment of the mooring that the crew members carried out training exercises to fight the submarines of fictitious opponents. Russian sailors have also participated in rescue and sea rescue exercises.

The missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, accompanied by logistic ships, entered the Mediterranean on 22 August.

Northern Fleet sailors participating in a series of exercises traveled to Algeria, Egypt and Turkey, while logistics vessels made stops in Cyprus and Greece.

The Russian cruiser left the Naval Base Severomorsk on July 3 to take part in a major naval exercise of the Russian Navy in Saint-Saint-Petersburg after which his crew took part in the large-scale exercise Ocean Shield 2019 .

After leaving Severomorsk, the Russian cruiser traveled more than 14,000 nautical miles.
