Russian Su-30SM fighter crashes in Syria: 2 pilots killed

RUSSIA (OBSERVATORY) – In Syria, a Russian Su-30SM fighter crashed, the Ministry of Defense reported, as cited by RIA.

“Both pilots, who fought for the plane until the last minute, perished from the scene,” they said in the department.

The accident occurred around 9:45 Moscow time over the Mediterranean Sea, when the fighter was gaining altitude after taking off from the airfield Khmeimim.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the fire on the aircraft did not open – a bird could get into the engine of the Su-30SM.
