UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The Arab-Kurdish units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday the final withdrawal of their fighters from the Syrian-Turkish border, they are replaced by Syrian border guards.
“After intensive discussions with the Russian Federation of our objections, we agreed to carry out its initiative to stop Turkish aggression in northeastern Syria … SDF will be placed in new positions far from the Syrian-Turkish border to avoid bloodshed and protect the region’s population,” RIA News statement from the squad press service.
“The Syrian border guards of the central government will be located on the entire border of Syria with Turkey,” it emphasized.
Syria state television channels Syria TV and Ikhbariya confirm the withdrawal of SDF fighters and heavy weapons 32 kilometers from the Syrian border with Turkey.
SDF said they adhere to a ceasefire, and called on the Russian Federation to help establish a “constructive dialogue” between the autonomous administration of the Kurds and the authorities in Damascus.
According to a squad press release published earlier on Wednesday, SDF commander Mazlum Abdi told Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu about the need to discuss in more detail some paragraphs of the Russian and Turkish memorandum on Syria.
