Series of loud explosions rocked near military bases north of Mali

MALI (OBSERVATORY) – A number of loud explosions rocked the northern city of Timbuktu on Sunday near army bases, a resident and a UN source said.

The sources said the blasts took place at a place where a peacekeeper was killed and a number of French soldiers were wounded in an attack by Islamist militants eight days ago.

On April 14, heavily fortified bases were attacked by a car bomb and rockets by militants masquerading as UN peacekeepers. He described the attack as the boldest in the midst of escalating militant violence in Mali and neighboring countries.
