NIGERIA (OBSERVATORY) – Several Nigerians were killed or wounded in a police assault that attacked a peaceful gathering of Shiites.
Police used tear gas and fired live ammunition killing or wounding several protesters.
According to the Mehr News report, citing Rai al-Youm, the police used tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the protesters.
The protesters called for the release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, who has been in detention since December 2015.
At the time, the military stormed members of the Islamic movement in Zaria killing hundreds of them and wounding and barbarously arresting Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife. Three of the Shia leader’s sons were also killed.
