Sharp losses to US stocks as markets fear of a viral pandemic

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Three major US stock indices tumbled on Monday as investors looked for safety amid heightened concerns about the impact of the Coronavirus on the global economy after a jump in new infections outside China, fueling fears of a pandemic.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 1029.5 points, or 3.55 percent to 27,962.91 points, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell by 111.8 points, or 3.55 percent, to record 3,225.95 points, and the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 355.31 points, or 3.71 percent to 9,221.28 points.
