Soros praises Trump for a trade war with China

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Billionaire George Soros called the Trump administration’s actions in relation to China “the most significant foreign policy achievement” of the current US leadership.

An American businessman of Hungarian-Jewish descent, notorious for his attempts to oppose the authorities of various countries, stated in an article in the Wall Street Journal that “China is a dangerous opponent [of the United States] in artificial intelligence and machine learning.”

According to Soros, the US administration “did the right thing” when it called China a strategic rival and put Huawei on the stop list for reasons of national security.

Soros also said that Trump should not use the situation with Huawei as an opportunity to conclude a trade agreement with Beijing. According to him, “while Huawei remains in the stop list, the company will not be able to access key technologies and will be seriously weakened.”

These statements of Soros are largely a reflection of the fears of Western elites about the possible loss of the US leading position in various fields to China. In addition, the 89-year-old billionaire also once again recalled his political activities: Soros summarizes the WSJ article on the trade war with China with the assertion that “as the founder of the Open Society Foundation, my interests in defeating China under the leadership of Xi Jinping beyond US national interests.”

This organization over the past few years has been recognized as undesirable in several countries. In 2018, the Open Society Foundation was forced to cease operations in Hungary. In 2015, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia announced the work of the Open Society Foundations and the Open Society Institute. Assistance Foundation as undesirable in the Russian Federation.
