South Africa: attack on a Shia mosque

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – A Shia mosque in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa, was the target of a bloody knife attack that left one person dead and two wounded in serious condition.

On Thursday, May 10, a knife attack of a rare violence occurred against the faithful in Imam Hussein’s Shiite mosque in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal, local sources quoted by Sputnik reported.

The attack killed at least three people, including an imam who died of his injuries. The other wounded are hospitalized.

The attackers, probably Egyptian nationals, were armed with firearms, but they used knives to kill the victims and slit their throats. They fled after setting fire to the mosque.

For now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
