UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Sanctions against Russia are still under consideration, State Department spokesman Heather Nauert said, amid rumors that President Donald Trump blocked further expansion of sanctions.
“New Russian sanctions are being considered,” Nauert said at a briefing in Washington. “Sanctions are not withdrawn from consideration, we simply have nothing to declare on this topic,” she added.
She also announced the support of the US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, who last weekend promised that sanctions will be introduced on Monday under the pretext of Russian support for the Syrian authorities. Then in the media there were reports that Trump had ordered to wait until later with additional sanctions.
“I will not comment on what she (Haley – ed.) Said or did not say, she is a very valuable and respected member of our foreign policy team … we firmly support it,” Nauert said.
