UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has responded to recent attacks in the country against politicians and people working for the benefit of society.
At the new year’s reception at the Schloss Bellevue Presidential Residence, Steinmeier hosted representatives of organizations that volunteer for the community.
Steinmeier drew attention to the attacks on politicians and representatives of organizations working for the public interest in the country and recalled that local politicians spent sleepless nights because of insults and threats.
“We need to raise our voices when people are humiliated and insulted,” Steinmeier said, stressing that it is the duty of politicians, police and the judiciary to protect those who show an effort for society.
President Steinmeier called on everyone to fight against hatred and the formation of an environment that disregards human dignity.
In Germany, attacks have recently been made on politicians and those who carry out activities in the interest of society at the local level.
