Switzerland: the first case of coronavirus infection

SWITZERLAND (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The first coronavirus infection was confirmed on Tuesday in Switzerland , the country’s health ministry said.

“The first case of coronavirus has been confirmed,” the ministry of health said on Twitter.

According to Blick, citing local authorities, the first case was discovered in the Ticino region bordering Italy.

In neighboring Italy , more than 200 cases of coronavirus have already been registered; several cities with a population of more than 50 thousand people have been quarantined.

On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan in the central part of the country (Hubei Province).

Experts have identified the causative agent of the disease – this is a new coronavirus. WHO recognized the outbreak as an emergency of international importance and gave the disease its official name – COVID-19.

The number of people infected in mainland China has already exceeded 77.6 thousand people, 2663 have died, over 27 thousand have been cured.
