Syria a field of confrontation: Putin warns Riyadh and Tehran

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Linking the situation in the region with the political settlement in Syria, the Russian President sent a message to Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Indicating a link between the situation in the Persian Gulf and the political settlement in Syria, the Russian President called on Saudi Arabia and Iran not to use Syrian territory to confront each other.

“This connection exists, in my opinion. Because the confrontation between the largest and most influential countries in the region can not fail to affect the situation of the region as a whole, including Syria, “he said Thursday at the discussion club Valdai.

He added that he was sure that Saudi Arabia, the country he will be visiting soon, and Iran, where he is in constant contact with the authorities, want peace for the Syrian people .

“We urge that, guided by this noble impulse, they do everything possible not to use Syria as a field of confrontation,” the President said.
