SYRIA (OBSERVATORY) – Units of the Syrian police and security forces entered Saturday in the city of the Duma in East Gut, which left the formation of the extremist group “Jays al-Islam.” According to the SANA agency, patrols of the siloviki will monitor the order in this village, which passed on April 12 under the control of government troops.
The civilians gathered in the square at the entrance to the city welcomed the arrival of the police.
On Friday, a column of Russian automotive equipment of the logistics support battalion was leaving for the Duma. As the chief of the Russian Center for reconciliation of warring parties in Syria, Major-General Yuri Yevtushenko, the new city administration was transferred to a front loader and a bulldozer, as well as construction materials.
Earlier, a column was sent to the Duma with construction equipment, trucks, steel pipes for repairing water supply and necessary equipment for the restoration of power networks. According to Yevtushenko, five more of these convoys will proceed to the city in the next week.
On Saturday, the Duma should leave the last groups of militants with their families. Since the end of February, more than 41 thousand people have left this settlement 12 km from Damascus, and more than 165 thousand from the Eastern Ghouta region. At the same time 250 hostages were released from the captivity of the militants.
