Italy reports 566 new cases of coronavirus and 5 new deaths

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Italy reports 566 new cases of coronavirus and 5 new deaths, raising total to 1,694 cases and 34 dead. This was announced on Sunday by the head of the Department of Civil Protection, Angelo Borrelli.

“At present, we have 1694 infected people, while about 51% are quarantined at home, that is, they have no symptoms of the disease,” Borrelli said.

He specified that 34 people died, more than 80 were cured. Borrelli also said that 9% of the total number of infected people are in intensive care units.

The outbreak of the disease caused by the new coronavirus was recorded at the end of December 2019 in the most populous city of Central China – the 12 millionth Wuhan.

Over the past 24 hours, the World Health Organization (WHO) has detected 1160 cases of infection with a new coronavirus outside of China, the total number of infected has reached 7169.

The report, published on the organization’s website, states that coronavirus infection outside of China has been recorded in 58 countries. The number of deaths increased to 104 (18 per day).

Over the past 24 hours, the virus has penetrated five more countries – Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Ireland, Monaco and Qatar.

According to the latest WHO data, the number of people infected in mainland China is 79,968, and 2873 have died. The total number of people infected with coronavirus worldwide is 87,137.
