The mayor of Nice announced a reduction in carnival week due to coronavirus

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The authorities of French Nice have decided to reduce the carnival week amid concerns about the spread of coronavirus in neighboring Italy.

“The last march of Nice’s carnival, scheduled for next Saturday, has been canceled,” BFMTV quotes Mayor Christian Estrosi as saying.

The number of victims as a result of infection with coronavirus in Italy has grown to 12, in total, 374 cases of infection with a new type of virus have been recorded since the start of the epidemic.

On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan in the central part of the country (Hubei Province). Experts have identified the causative agent of the disease – this is a new coronavirus. WHO recognized the outbreak as an emergency of international importance and gave the disease its official name – COVID-19.

The number of infected in mainland China has already exceeded 78 thousand people, 2715 have died, over 29 thousand have been cured. According to WHO, in 33 countries recorded more than 80 thousand cases of infection with COVID-19.
