UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Hamza bin Laden, the son of Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al-Qaeda group (banned in the Russian Federation), who was destroyed in 2011, was liquidated as a result of a US special operation. This is stated in a statement issued on Saturday by the press service of the White House.
“Hamza bin Laden, who held a high position in al-Qaeda and was the son of bin Laden, was killed as a result of the US counterterrorism operation in the region of Afghanistan and Pakistan,” the statement said.
“The loss of Hamza bin Laden will not only deprive Al-Qaeda of important leadership and symbolic ties with his father, but will also undermine the important tactical actions of the group. Hamza bin Laden was responsible for planning and working with various terrorist groups,” the US President said.
Earlier, the newspaper The New York Times reported that Hamza bin Laden could have been liquidated as a result of a certain operation that was carried out in the last two years during the Trump administration, while a specific date was not specified. According to these data, US intelligence played a certain role in it.
In early 2019, the State Department announced that Washington was ready to pay $ 1 million for information that would establish the whereabouts of Hamza bin Laden.
According to the publication, at that time the specified operation was already carried out, but Washington was not sure that Hamza bin Laden was killed. The United States hoped in this way to receive confirmation of this.
Hamza bin Laden was previously captured on some propaganda videos that Al Qaeda distributed. US authorities believe that Hamza bin Laden was preparing for him to become one of the leaders of the group.
Osama bin Laden was destroyed by US special forces in Pakistan on May 2, 2011. The order to carry out this operation was given by Barack Obama, who at that time was the president of the United States.
